As I hear many others have experienced, I failed to take enough pictures of my engine tear down. It's been too long since I last touched the engine, so now I am at a loss and my shop manual doesn't mention anything.
I have two holes in the block that have no threads and I can't remember what they're for. I'm fairly new to this, so I'm sorry if I'm missing something very obvious.
The first is right next to the air breather. I checked and it's not for the beather's mounting clip. If I check it with a rod, it goes right to the cam. Here's a picture, it's the tiny hole next to to the air breather hole:
http://i.imgur.com/5mhH2.jpgThe next hole I can't identify goes all the way to the other inside wall of the engine. It's the tiny hole in the bottom center of this picture, located directly beneath the air breather hole:
http://i.imgur.com/yjeWC.jpgI'm not sure if it helps, but after the rebuild of the engine, I found a part that I couldn't remember if I took it off the engine or not. It's this part right here:
http://i.imgur.com/b0FMn.jpg Not sure if that is related or helps at all, but I have no idea what that piece went to. It doesn't look stock, as the threaded hole in the top right of the piece looks fairly home-made.
Any help would be great. I've tried talking to some local guys, but they all replaced their stovebolts with newer V8s and they don't have anything similar. I can't start hooking up the engine until I figure it out since they go right into the block.
What am I missing?
