I had a truck like that, I found that cranking the engine a few revolutions before giving it any throttle would make it start easier when hot. Sometimes when hot, the gas will percolate into the manifold, and the mixture will be too rich when you hit the starter, so by cranking with no throttle, it pushes this out into the tailpipe.
