I painted the chrome plated interior window garnish in my '54. So far, it is holding up well. Disclaimer - I baby the pieces / no harsh treatment.

The garnish was originally painted steel. Previous owner chrome plated them. The chrome was pealing, so I pealed off all that I could. Then sanded with 320g to give some tooth to the primer (I believe that I used 320). Primed with epoxy primer. Sprayed rattle-can sandable primer over the epoxy and wet sanded smooth. Top coated with 2K urathane. No clear coat.
