You should have 2 terminals on the sending unit.
Ground 1 wire at a time & the coresponding light
should come on with the key on. If the cold
light comes on replace the sending unit. The
hot light should come on with key in start
position. I like to put in a new sending unit
anytime I get a "new" vehicle just too be shure.
