In the early 70's I had a 1966 fleetside, long wheelbase, and spent quite a bit of time in farm country. Most of the farmers that I knew had fleetside, long wheel base pickups, although a few had fleetside short wheelbase pickups. As was previously mentioned, these were used for work. On the farm, you could load more bales of hay onto a fleetside, long wheelbase, and there was more space for hauling hogs or cattle.
