'57 GMC 3/4 ton.
How much of the splined slip joint should be exposed when the truck is unloaded?
I know there must be some room for movement of the rear shaft. I am pulling the rear shaft to have a new one made due to a large dent in the old one.
Currently there are 1.5 inches showing. Just wanted to check before the new one is made in case there needs to be some adjustments made to the length.
I looked in the service manual but could find nothing that particularly addresses this.

Thanks all.
