Lots of things have been done to A-D Chevy pickups, including what you listed. The original straight axle and leaf springs in good, tight condition with good, balanced tires and proper alignment is plenty easy to drive and safe. Those axles can be dropped up to 4" if you want to put it in the weeds. The entire front suspension crossmember from a 63-87 has been installed but the front track is too wide... here about a camaro front clip in an A-D truck. Some of the full color magazines have vendors selling susp kits for everything. The best choice will depend on what you want to accomplish.
