I think it is a factory wood.Yes there is a tin piece that goes over top that has the hi/low beam swithch.But I am pretty confident that the 42/46 chevys all need this wood toeboard If there is a metal replacement I would like to see picks of it. checked obsolete chevy and this is all they have.thx den http://www.parts123.com/PartFrame.a...com&TITLE=Obsolete_Chevrolet_Part_Co
