On the road Shop Shark O Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 455 CA Mountain Desert	Probably because non-detergent straight grade oil was more common in earlier years, which doesn't need an oil filter. Detergent oil needs an oil filter, as particles stay suspended in the oil. On the road every day... 1952 Truck - 235 1948 Coupe - 261
