If you happen to have a small-journal 327 block and a forged steel 283 crankshaft, you've got the basics of one of the best-performing combinations Chevy ever built, the 302. For a lot of years, us hotrodders bored out 283's to 4" to make a "301" engine. Chevy caught on in 67, put a 3" stroke crank in a 327 block, and called it a "302". They cheated half a cubic inch! (301.46) The Z-28 Camaros got everybody's attention with that engine and its 8,000+ RPM capability!
