A glow plug doesn't work that way. In a deisel w/ glow plugs, the plug only preheats the combustion chamber to aid in starting. It does not ignite the feul like a spark plug does. Once the engine is started, the glow plugs are inactive.
For what you want to do, you might look into one of the kits on the market. Alternatively, you could go Old School and use Model T coils, which work very well and require no outside controls to operate.
