Hy NathanPlemons, you'll get many opinions on this subject. I'll tell you how I was taught to do it, tighten the adjusters until you can't tighten them anymore, then back them off no more than seven notches. It was explained to us that this procedure would center the shoes in the drum first, and then provide a running clearance, hope that helps.
