I doubt if the drum would survive the spray welding process without serious warping. It would also be very suceptible to the added material breaking loose under the stress of pressure from the brake shoes. I've seen spray-welded stroker crankshafts in flathead Fords with the built-up section loose and spinning on the crank journal. It makes for a really weird-sounding knock!
