I recently replaced the Rochester B carb on my 235 Powerglide engine with a Carter YF 2100S. I am very happy with the Carter.
The Rochester has been with me a long time however, bought as a remanufactured carb about 25 years ago. Can't bear to throw it in the junk pile, so I decided to clean it up and give it a rebuild and set it on the shelf. It actually is in very good shape. It has been in continuous use these last 25 years and is very clean inside. The castings seem very straight and not warped.Everything came apart very easily. In fact the screws holding the body together were just a little more than finger tight and looked like new.
I think the major problem with this carb is that the throttle body is wallowed out at the throttle shaft bearings. It always leaked gas here, and I am sure I have a vacuum leak at this point. Obviously this was not addressed by the rebuilder 25 years ago.
Do any of you good folks know of a shop where I could send the throttle body to have bushings put in?
Thanks,
Kurt
