I ended up taking a grinder to the adjusting end of the cable. Did it on the nut looking "cap" at the end of the rubber/plastic shield part of the cable housing. If that makes any sence. Guess I could've also just reamed out the bracket with the pinch bolt a little. Probably just 60 years of paint and dirt made the cable housing too big to go through. All is well, thanks.
