there is no other place than the ID tag for a number, and the engine number was never the same as the vehicle ID number - it is in fact a '42 3/4T truck, with a title showing the engine number [of a 54 235] as was common back then - the previous owner who changed the engine no doubt had the vin changed on the title to reflect that change
