I often wondered that too. I've been pulling some calipers off of an 07 Van and the OE line seems to 3/16 on the whole thing. The van has huge dual piston calipers, seems like 1/4" would be the better way to go being it's larger. I wonder if it has anything to do with the anti-lock systems on modern vehicles.
