I removed the springs from my '48 sanded each side grinded the ends on a 22deg angle removed 4 leafs ,painted with POR 15, installed tefflon liner, installed new shackles, gas shocks 15" wheels and tires. Lowered it bout 2" and rides v-well.Not like a new one but better than it did.
I also took 3 leafs from the front corners for a smoother ride.
Just have to remember ITS A 60 Year old truck and its gonna ride like one. You can help it out a little but its still a 'ol truck.
