292 engines run extremly hot exhaust systems when used in the larger trucks. We contantly replaced gaskets & manifolds back when I worked on fleets of Step Vans. There used to be available a stainless steel gasket for them but they discontinued them many years ago. I would check & see if someone has a solid copper gasket available for it. Or possibly running without a gasket on the ex. ports like the V-8s. Make sure there is as little back pressure as possible. Low restrictive mufflers. That business about the head being warped is a cop out.
