For whatever it's worth, I never even thought about asking this question when I restored my '49 4400 and I just bought a repro hood emblem from American Classic (probably the same one Jim carter and the others have, too). It bolted right on and looked identical to the rusty dented one I removed from the hood.

That's the same hood emblem everyone else orders for their little trucks and it appears to be a form/fit/function replacement. I can't speak to exact correctness or part numbers, though. All I can do is tell you it fit the hood seam and the bolt holes perfectly.
