The easiest way to hook up the throttle cable, is to just drill a vertical hole through the "rod" where it attached to the carb. In the second picture, just drill vertical where the bent up remnants of the cotter-pin are horizontal right now. When the gas pedal is pushed, the lever on the carb just slides up the cable.

Also, where the electrical tape is on your column, one of the steel brake adjuster plugs will fit in there, and look cool. I only mention this, as in scraping the junk off my column, I discovered the one on my truck! I only mention this, if you have one laying around. I seem to recall the vendors want $8 or something like that for one. Ugh!
