I think people install them for the look.I had them on my 1951 Chevy truck for many years.Took the old truck for a test run a couple years ago with the new 261 engine we built.I got pulled over at night by a Highway patrolman,he told me they were illegal here in Kansas.He give me a warning ticket,I took them off and installed the stock looking lens.

The blue dots actually look a pinkish purple from a distance.
