the electrical gauges, (gas, and amp) in my 53 have little slots/indents that line up with little tabs that stick out from the gauge panel thingy (I don't know what its called, the part the gauges fasten too any way) to keep it from contact with the panel so it shouldn't be able to short out, I'm not sure about any other truck though.
