I had the stock rad on my 1942 truck cleaned out, a few seeps soldered, and a 4 psi cap put. I hooked it up to a fresh rebuilt 261 and thought that my temperature gauge was not working - it did not get up to 100 degrees in 20 minutes of idling. I expected 'issues' with the restricted water flow induced by mounting the old waterpump low in the block ( compared to the 261 motor) - but had none.
They really don't make them like they used to!
