Adjust the valves so you just take up the slack & leave about 2-5 thousands clearance. Go ahead & start it up when you are ready. After it warms up a bit start adjusting them down one at a time with the engine running. At first it will miss & then settle down. If so go ahead & adjust it down about a quarter turn. If they wont settle down go ahead and adjust them to 5 thousands. It will run OK that way but make a little noise. You might try again after you run it awhile. If you want to be perfect you will need to replace the cam & lifters.
If you already put in new lifters then you are adjusting them from the bottom of the travel.
