I did the vent assemblies on my '54 3100 recently. One of the assemblies almost fell into place. The other was a bear. The door that was difficult had been wrecked and repaired somewhere along the way. Possibly, the opening between the outer skin and the inner skin of the door was a little smaller (?).

You seem to be saying that you are trying to slide the vertical bar down against the window glass. That won't work. You must insert the assembly at an angle tilted toward the latch side of the door with only a corner of the window glass in the vertical track. Then rotate it into place, overlapping more of the window glass as you get the assembly into place. The window glass is pretty tough, but you could crack it if you manhandle it too hard.

Admission of guilt: I installed the assembly into the "troublesome" door, but I don't know what I did. It just finally went it. Maybe I was holding my tongue a little differently!
