What year and voltage/ground truck?
Sounds like you have some electrical problems.
Is your wiring in good shape?
Do you have clean grounds in original locations?
I have had one 12v Pertronix unit working fine in a 1954 Chevy pickup since 1997.
I have one 6v Pertronix unit working fine in a 1954 Chevrolet Suburban since about 2004.
Try a search on the site on "Pertronix".
I carry a complete, tested, spare distributor with a points-system in it. This is good insurance (that I have not yet had to use).
