I would have probably been hoping on a $1200 price too. It sounds like it just so happened that at least a couple of people really wanted it.
You never know at an auction. I was bidding on a '66 Chevy parts car once and drew the line at $125. No one really wanted it and I bought it for $30. It's just how your luck goes. But that was just one time. I've been outbid many other times.
