You're in the same boat I am Denny about modern materials. I earned my living with a paint gun for years and was darn good at it but I've not shot any of the modern stuff so while I'm long on general knowledge I'm very short on specifics related to new materials like the primers you mention. For what it's worth I always wet sanded before topcoating. I've never found an application where dry sanding provided a superior finish to wet. Wet sanding is/has been so prevalent that if it's not recommended I would think a manufacturer would put that in bold print on the label on the paint can.
