You should be able to do it that way. Clean out the channel real good. Use a thin glass material. Wrap the material around the edge of the glass & put it in position. Put a block of wood against it & tap it in. It shouldn't take much. Some times you can put pressure on the glass with your hand & tap the frame. You might put some silicone spray on it to help it slide easier. After it is in take a razer & cut off the excess.
