Sort of was in the same boat. I did use some diesel in a garden sprayer to wash the insides down from the top. Removed the valve cover, then sprayed it down. Left the oil plug out to see how much gunk came out. Then I put in fresh cheap oil and used the shaft from an old screwdriver I did not need any more, and put that on a drill. Inserted it down the distributor hole and spun the oil pump. Took a short time and the fresh oil started to arrive at the rockers. Turned the engine a few times with just the starter and no plugs. Drained again and added new good oil. Thing started right up. Ran only for a few moments before I shut it off. Need to add oil filter to it now.
