Hopefully someone has actually done this and can give me some advice.
My brake cylinders are corroded & the drums cannot be turned anymore, already past limits, so I am trying to convert the front to Bendix. I have backing plates from a 58 1/2 ton and they fit fine with their spacers, so far so good. Only have to drill out the lower bolts to 1/2" as per articles.
But, and there is always a but, the new drums I have have a 3.57" center opening where the old huck hub is 3.75 OD. THe drums match data on NAPA for front drums for at least 52-59. So much for articles saying easy bolt in using the old Huck hubs. Do I need mid fifties hubs (that aren't made anymore)?
Also the stud holes in the drum are only 0.45" but the knurled portion of the stud is 0.57". New studs appear to be 0.57" knirl dia as well. Is it common to have to drill out the drum? What diameter do you drill these to for a 0.57" knurl?
