The Chev orange/red is deffinitly wrong. It was a deeper red like Crysler or Buick. I use primer on bare metal surfaces & Rustoleom rusty -metal- primer on rusted surfaces. Don,t paint the inside. If it comes loose it can clog oil passages. I believe the bell housing was not painted from the factory. Duplicolor has a paint called builders cast coat. It looks like cast iron. I lke to assemble the engine & paint it all. On the pulleys & brackets etc. use Ace hardware premium in a black can. Semi-flat black.Krylon also has a semi-flat black but it is duller. I use it under fenders & core supports & inner fenders. Now after you spend about 50 bucks on aerosols you will have a whole cabinate full like I do.
