Denny,

What size Clamptite tool would you recommend for this job?

It looks like you have this one?
Plated Steel Components - Aluminum Body Tool w/Wing Nut $29.95
4 3/4" Long - 7" Fully Extended

Is 19 (0.036") gauge stainless OK? (at $10.50 for 50 ft)?

Or, 0.041"

This clamp and 0.041" wire set is a good price:
Lee Valley

I now see why you went in this direction - it would pay itself in comparison to buying several quality stainless clamps/clips (and it look good and it might be useful on other projects on the truck and around the house). I think I will try it out - the videos and illustrations make this look safe and possible for a novice like me.

Thanks,
