I wanted to replace the low geared third member on my 49 1-ton pickup. I found a 4.10 from a 67to72 chevy 3/4 ton truck. I pulled the universal yoke and the housing holding the pinion seal, And found that this third member has ball bearings. This seems like an outdated design for a 70s truck. Is this the way they were?
