That's one idea Brad, think I'll look thru my Micro-Mark catalog. Problem that I already anticipate is that most every on is going to LED in hobby, automotive, entertainment now days. The incandescent bulb is gonna go the way the telephone booth, VCR's and record players did and become extinct in a few years.
Well that's certainly another option Brian, a bit expensive right around ten bucks at most stores that carry Dorman products. You couldn’t use the 12v lighter it self of course so you would be paying ten bucks for the lamp socket.
The question that I woke up with this morning was, would the 12v lighter work on 6v??? So I hooked up one of the 12v plugs to a 6v battery this morning and the jumper wires got REAL hot, but the element never did get a glow on. I measured the resistance of the 12v element and got about .6ohms. Not sure about that value because it gets kind of difficult to get an accurate resistance measurement with most of the DMM’s on the market today. But using that figure for both the 12v & 6v measurements shows the relationship that I was looking for.
Ohms law: P=E^2/R Using the values 12v and .6ohms; which yields 240 watts
P=E^2/R Using the values 6v and .6ohms; which yields 60 watts
So I see that there is no way of using the 12v element on 6v, just gonna restrict the current to much, 20a on 12v and 10a on 6v.
Bottom line at this point is, that if I want a 6v lighted cigar lighter, I’m gonna have to make my own side mounted socket shell.
