guys,
do any of you know a website that shows v-belt lengths and widths ?
i have search the net and cant find one.
i need a v-belt that 54" long and .440 wide.
last weekend i changed my alternator fromt he passengers side to the drivers side in anticipation for an a/c compressor that i want on the passengers side.
i used late 60's small block alternator brackets that put it on the drivers side. it is squarely in line with the other pulleys, but using a different groove in the pulleys that have been bare for a long time.
truck runs fine, in gear stomping on the gas, etc, no squealing. BUT, in park, if i snap the throttle, i get a sharp squeak in the belt in the area between the crank and water pump pulley, about a 3-4" span. i can actually see the belt in that short area wobble.
i cleaned both water pump and crank pulley with scotch brite and #220 grit sand paper, then cleaned it all off with brake cleaner, the ultra fast drying stuff. put the belt back ona nd it still squeaked. sprayed it with some belt dressing, and it still squeaks only at the sharp throttl rev in park.
i am running a brand new belt, but its one of those belts that a ribbed on the inside. i want to try a solid belt and see what happens, that whay im looking for a cross reference so i can just walk in the auto store and tell them what i need.
any thought guys ? if i cant get it stop this, i will return the alternator to the passengers side, and just have to run the compressor on the driver side, with the a/c lines crossing the motor, which i dont like.... but i aint gonna live with this squeal.
thansk in advance.
