The spacers go on the outside of the springs as Grigg originally stated. The shop manual has a misprint. You have a 2" wide spring and the 1/2" spacer, because the same spring brackets ( or hangers) were also used on the 1.5 ton and 2 ton trucks that had 2.5" wide springs.
