I believe that the old tranny will not bolt to a modern bell housing without a spacer to adapt from the bore of the modern bellhousing to the input bearing housing outside diameter of the tranny.
A 3 speed of the same vintage as the engine makes the swap easier, but then you have to deal with the torque tube driveshaft and differential.
This swap is not easy, but not impossible.
