Im sure this has been posted at one time but its just too slick not to pass on to someone else.
If youve got an old over head -valve engine thats been sitting a while, which turns over but has stuck valves this may save you some time and money.
Instead of pulling the cylinder head to free a stuck valve(s), remove the rocker arms and then take a rubber mallet and gently tap-open the stuck valve - but not too far, then rotate the engine so that the piston with the stuck valve is downward about half way, then stuff as much rope as you can through the sparkplug hole (the bigger the rope, the better) and then rotate the engine so that the piston contacts the rope that youve stuffed in the sparkplug hole and closes the valve. You can WD-40 and keep repeating the process until the valve moves freely.
Be sure not to tap open the offending valve so much that the rope can get between the valve and head.
What the heck?
Worth a try and works sometimes if the valves arent too rusted.
