New to the forum...just purchased my first project truck, it is a 1950 GMC 100, 216 straight 6, three on the tree and 59,000 original miles. Little history I was given, the truck served on a cattle ranch for 40-50 years and spent the remainder of it's life as a daily driver here in southern Ohio. I purchased it this past weekend and made a 130 mile trip home with no issues at all. The next day I was headed to a local lake for some fishing when I began to have transmission issues. On the way, I noticed 3rd kept "popping" out of gear (which seemed to happen more and more as more miles passed). I also noticed that 2nd seemed to have a loud whine to it compared to 1 & 3. When I headed out to grab lunch I attempted to shift to 2nd and met a good amount of resistance, finally it went in to gear however when I released the clutch it acted as if the truck was in neutral. Attempting to shift to third only proved a terrible grinding noise. Now I'm unable to get the transmission to shift in to 2nd or 3rd at all..it appears to be completely seized up, 1st and reverse still work flawlessly. FWEEW! If anyone was actually able to read that whole schpeal and can provide any input it would be greatly appreciated. I plan on getting out this weekend and pulling the trans, taking it to a local shop if I must but would like to see if there is any experience floating around with this type of issue. thanks for your time and input.
