Hy lastchancetowing, as far as the hose to the air filter is concerned that is the way it is suppossed to be. Your carb has a manual choke, a lot of car carbs have automatic chokes, maybe someone changed up to a newer carb, but it doesn't look too different from what should be there, could you post a picture of the accelerator pump, I have never seen anything other than a round one.
