All 1954 car engines were 235s. Some had hydraulic lifters (Powerglide equipped) and some had mechanical lifters (as did the truck 235).

216/235/261 engines are fairly easily interchangeable over all the years (37-63). Some modifications have to made when 55 and later engines are put into earlier trucks. Depending on the years, some modifications have to made to the motor mounts. 216/235/261 all have the same bolt pattern for attaching any year clutch housing or automatic transmission.
