I use 3-M trim cement ("Gorilla Snot", as the NASCAR guys call it) and stick the gasket to the canister lid in 3 or 4 places. It's a contact cement, so start with a CLEAN, dry surface, and apply small dabs of the adhesive to both the lid and the gasket, and let it dry completely. When the cemented areas touch each other, the glue sticks to itself. Don't use any glue between the filter housing and the lid.

Next oil change, be sure and scrape all the old cement off and prepare the gasket surface with a volatile spray like brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner.
