There are two different types of oil filters used on USA 261s: a by-pass filtration canister, used from 1954-1957; and, a full-flow canister, used from 1958-1963.
Both systems can be easily mounted on the intake manifold (as original), or mounted low on the block, or mounted in a remote location (off the engine assembly). The original location is forward of the carb for the by-pass canister and rearward of the carb for the full-flow canister.
Hoses for the by-pass system are readily available (from most reproduction parts vendors) and full-flow system hoses can be easily made (with parts from Jeg's Summit Racing, etc).
