So you could try the 0.120" gaskets and make sure to use silicone sealant around the water passages on both sides of the gasket.
Not knowing the history of your heads, I don't know if that's the case. But it is one possible reason.
If you take your heads off, and sounds like you will, why not cc your combustion chambers? You should have 64cc, give or take. If you have a lot less than that, then maybe your heads WERE shaved.
