I think that in the USA they usually call it an E-brake rather than a handbrake.
There is a small cross shaft on the end of your E-brake pedal. This should have a clevis joint and a rod which goes back to a a lever which is welded to a full width cross shaft half way down the chassis, there is lever at each end of this on the outside of the chassis. These levers connect to two Bowden style cables which go back to the rear brake backplates.
I can't see the full width cross shaft in your photos; hopefully it hasn't been removed.
