I'll try posting a couple of photos here. By way of an update, I ended up doing what Four on the Floor recommended. I built new linkage from the pivot point up to the carb and cut the linkage from the pivot point to the accelerator pedal. I ended up fabricating a clip at the oil pan to hook the return spring to and then I drilled the linkage from the pivot point to the carb to attach the other end of the return spring to. I had to straighten a few spots on the accelerator rod in my vice, but all is working as it should with no binds.
