Hi, i'm new here to the Bolt. I am addicted to vintage iron. It all started with a 55 Chevy my dad gave me. I tore it appart, put it back together, drove it, raced it, broke it, fixed it, and drove it to work and through college.
Back then I thought high revving small blocks were all I'd ever want and sixes were dogs. My brother bought a 54 with a full pressure 235 and an iron glide. I was amazed at how well it scooted down the road. Then one day I realized I had modded my 55 into something I could no longer daily drive. That’s when I started playing with trucks!
I stil put small blocks in everything. I bought a 59 Apache from a nice guy downtown. I slapped a 283 in it and cruised it. I sold that and bought a 63 shor tbed from an attorney. It had a well maintained 230. I discovered I really like the inline six. I sold that 63 and bought my current 61 long bed Chevy. True to form and being cheep, I dropped in the Duntov cam’ed 283 I used to launch at 7800 in my 55 every week. It was still in the corner of my garage. Later on, I swapped in a fuel injected 350. The first one didn’t work out, (fractured crank.) They swapped me out a new one under warranty, but all they had was a “Claimer.” I put it in with a carb I had laying around. They did right by me, but now with my tbi heads I have an insane compression ratio for an RV cam and premium. Detonation city! I had to disconnect the vacuum advance and now the mileage is worse than I can tolerate. My glide with the stall converter isn’t helping either…
So, here we are! I am about to swap in a six and make it a nice cruising truck with better mileage and regular gas. I will either get a 230/250 whichever it is from one friend, or, a 216 from another. I bet that will get some folks riled up.

My search for tech info and advice on sixes led me to this nice online community. Here’s to fun with sixes.
