Another idea would be drill out hole and install a wel-nut (the rubber thingy that goes in a blind hole, you thread your bolt in, and it expands and locks in place.) If that's not strong enough or sticks out too far, straighten the prongs on a T-nut, and weld it in the hole. Good luck!
